Looking on the bright side of life

Looking on the bright side of life

Have you ever had a day where the missteps or challenges hit harder than other days? During times like this, your thoughts can slip into the negative, which wreak havoc with your moods, motivation, and general wellbeing.

All of us have experienced days like this, but there are things you can do to help. Your mind is a powerful thing. Suppose you create rituals and routines that help create a positive mindset; that mindset sits around you, almost like an aura, meaning those challenges roll right on off you without causing unnecessary stress.

Living a life with more positive emotions can change your stress perception, meaning that when they do come, the stressors don't seem as bad. A more positive outlook is intrinsically tied to how you spend your time. You can choose to prioritise your happiness and wellbeing, like looking after yourself, spending time with loved ones, eating well, exercising and getting enough sleep. We all know it to be true; a good balance of the factors above help lead to a life well-lived.

Of course, there's always more that you can do, and the incredible thing is that these are all things you can easily implement today. Call it project "Look on the bright side of life."

- Gratitude
Bookend your day with gratitude. Whether you journal or simply just mentally list the things you feel grateful for. Counting your gratitude reminds you that it's often the small things in each day that you adore most.

- Focus on the good
Positivity, it's a mental game. And often it's one you choose. There are always so many ways to look at things. A failure isn't a failure; it's a lesson. There's always a little good to be found in each and every situation.

- Allow yourself to laugh
There's a lot of truth to be found in the quote, "don't take yourself too seriously." The biggest being that, gosh, wouldn't it be exhausting to be serious all of the time. Allow yourself to laugh, allow yourself to be goofy and silly. It's good for the soul, which means it's good for your mental health and mindset too.

- Surround yourself with positive people
The people you surround yourself with matter. Think of yourself as a sponge, soaking up any and all vibes you come into contact with. Surround yourself with little rainbows and bright rays of sunshine.

- Make life fun
Routine is great. Routine is healthy. But sometimes, it's good to experiment and switch it up. Cooking is an excellent outlet for this type of creativity. So challenge yourself, make hearty colourful meals full of flavour, create a brand new coloured smoothie every morning and have fun while you are at it.

- Check your inner dialogue
Sometimes the person inside your brain can run a little wild; it helps to check in on how you talk to yourself every now and then. Remind yourself not to be too hard on yourself; remember that everything is a lesson and that you are already doing an incredible job.
