A step-by-step routine for radiant skin

This February, getting your glow on is as simple as nailing down your skincare routine!  If you want clearer, brighter and more radiant-looking skin there are a few key steps you need to make sure you aren’t skipping! Once you understand why each step is necessary, it’s so much easier to build the perfect routine with the right products for your skin. Read on to find out how!

Step 1: Cleanse every morning and night

It’s likely your skin produces more oil during warmer months. This is because the intense heat combined with layers of sunscreen means your skin is exposed to a lot more than it is during winter. To combat this, switch to a gel cleanser during the summer months. The foaming action of gel cleansers helps to lift dirt, makeup or sunscreen off your skin better than crème cleansers.

If you have dry, irritated or sensitive skin, opt for a super calming gel cleanser that is gentle enough to use without leaving your skin stripped of moisture.

Step 2: Up your exfoliation

Because you’re exposed to so much more during summer, you may find that your skin is looking a little dull or congested. Because of this, exfoliation is your best friend right now. Your skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells on the topmost layer of your skin, and sometimes, this layer of skin needs a helping hand. Well hello exfoliation – by gently scrubbing away those dead skin cells, it can reveal the newer, smoother layers of skin underneath. Choose a gentle exfoliator like essano™ Vitamin C Brightening Polishing Scrub which contains micro-exfoliants that are super, duper fine particles, gentle enough to use daily (unlike standard exfoliators which you should only use every few days).

Step 3: Step up the Serum

Serums should be your new favourite must-have skincare product. They’re highly concentrated formulas which pack a punch of goodness into your skincare routine.

There are SO many different serums available, all targeting different concerns you might have, and some can even be layered on top of each other.

Step 4: Brighten those peepers

The skin around your eyes is a lot more delicate than the rest of your face. You should take extra care to look after it as it’ll be the first tell-tale sign if your skin isn’t happy.

After applying your serum, simply dab a small amount of your chosen eye cream around your eye contours – that’s under your brow bone (not on your eyelid!), on the outer corners and under your eyes. Use your ring finger as that’s the gentlest finger and pat, rather than rub.

Step 5: Set up a base with an SPF moisturiser

You always need a good base to help protect your skin. Sun protection should be the number 1 thing you do for your skin, especially if living in Australia or New Zealand.

Choosing a SPF moisturiser is a great way to prep your skin for any makeup or additional sunscreen you might apply later! Use as you would a normal moisturiser, then apply the rest of your makeup. Even on cloudy days when you’re spending most of the time indoors, you are still exposed to harmful UV rays through windows, so reach for nothing less than an SPF 15 moisturiser to nourish and protect your skin during those work-from-home days.
