I’m not going to lie, I’m starting to feel a little bit overwhelmed with the news at the moment. And I’m sure so many of you are feeling the same.
The more I tune in, the more tired I feel. I know that it’s good to stay informed but it’s overwhelming and exhausting trying to keep up.
While I know it’s the reality of the world right now, I don’t think it’s healthy for anyone’s minds to be so filled with so much doom and gloom (except Coronavirus memes, memes are always good 😂).
So this morning I decided to give the power back to myself and focused on the one thing I can control - ME.
Instead of watching the news or scrolling social media when I first woke up, I read my book. I went for a quick walk around the backyard with my dog (got to get the exercise somehow right!?) and did a grounding 5 minute meditation.
I took a few moments away from the chaos of the world to refill my cup.
I retreated myself, literally. I retreated from the world and went within.
And you want to know what happened? I felt a whole lot better. I now feel lighter, I feel energised, I feel ready to take on whatever is coming at me. I feel whole again.
I know that for many of us, taking time for ourselves right now isn’t a reality. Maybe you’re working from home or have children running around demanding your attention, and I get that it’s tough, I really do.
But even if you just make a conscious effort to turn off the news and social media for a while and focus on you, you’ll notice a huge difference in the way that you feel.
I know times are tough, and tougher for some more than others. My heart goes out to everyone who is feeling this right now. But we MUST look after our well-being. We must look after our headspace. While we can’t control the world, the media, or the way other people react - we can control ourselves and our own reactions.
Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it. Bring that power back to you and your whole situation will change.
The world needs our light right now, more than ever before, so please, take a moment for you. Switch off the TV, stop reading the news, call a friend.
